text=ROLE OF HALT Through its unique membership and structure, HALT has a number of key roles in developing tobacco control initiatives; 1 Advocator of healthy policy and good practice, influencing all sectors involved in tobacco control; 2 Policy maker/influencer supporting more effective strategic thinking both for HALT and its individual partners. 3 Coordinator unifying partners to ensure an effective use of resources, consistent messages and congruent actions between members. 4 Lobbyer of representatives of national and local bodies. 5 Informer creating a central information point for tobacco control data and disseminating key information to all relevant sectors. 6 Supporter of all those who seek to develop tobacco control initiatives. 7 LIaiser with all other agencies: Department of Health Tobacco Control Policy Unit, No Smoking Day, QUIT, ASH, European Networks, supporting national programmes at local level. 8 Income Generator obtaining funding from Department of Health Tobacco Control Policy Unit, Local Authorities, Health Authorities and any other appropriate agency to support the work of the Alliance. 9 Facilitator encouraging the sharing of expertise and good practice. 10 Educator of those involved in tobacco control, increasing awareness of issues and enhancing skills. 11 Enforcer encouraging and supporting those involved in the enforcement process, relating to illegal sales, clean air etc.
